- 1 lb (450 g) minced beef
- 2 cups (300 g) potatoes, diced
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 cup (240 ml) beef broth
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 sheet puff pastry (or shortcrust pastry)
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large skillet, cook onions, garlic, carrots, and minced beef until browned.
- Stir in tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper; simmer for 10 minutes.
- Meanwhile, boil diced potatoes until tender, about 10 minutes, then drain.
- Combine potatoes with the beef mixture, stirring gently.
- Pour the mixture into a pie dish and cover with puff pastry, sealing the edges.
- Brush the top with beaten egg and cut small slits for steam to escape.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the beef mixture.
- Serve with a side of mixed vegetables or a fresh salad.
