- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz/794 g) crushed tomatoes
- 4 cups (950 ml) chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 2 tsp dried basil
- 1 cup (240 g) uncooked pasta (like rotini)
- 1 cup (240 g) ricotta cheese
- 1 cup (100 g) shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup (50 g) grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a skillet, brown the ground beef with onion and garlic over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink; drain excess fat.
- Transfer the beef mixture to the slow cooker, and add crushed tomatoes, broth, oregano, basil, uncooked pasta, salt, and pepper.
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or high for 3-4 hours.
- About 30 minutes before serving, stir in ricotta and half of the mozzarella cheese.
- Before serving, sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan on top and let it melt.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider using Italian sausage instead of ground beef.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving for extra freshness.
