- 3 lbs (1.4 kg) pork shoulder
- 1 cup (240 ml) barbecue sauce
- 1/2 cup (120 ml) chicken broth
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons (10 g) garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) onion powder
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) salt
- 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 g) black pepper
- 1 teaspoon (5 g) cayenne pepper (optional)
Instructions
- Place the pork shoulder in the slow cooker.
- In a bowl, mix together the barbecue sauce, chicken broth, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
- Pour the mixture over the pork.
- Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until the pork is tender and easily shreds.
- Remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it with two forks.
- Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix with the sauce.
- Serve on buns or in tacos.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the pork overnight with the spice mix.
- This pulled pork can be frozen for later use, just reheat before serving.
