- 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 fat ratio)
- 4 hamburger buns
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of American cheese
- 1 cup (100 g) shredded lettuce
- 1 tomato, sliced
- Pickles (optional)
- Ketchup and mustard (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
- Divide the ground beef into 4 equal portions.
- Form each portion loosely into a ball; do not overwork.
- Place the balls onto the hot surface and smash down with a spatula to form thin patties.
- Season each patty with salt and pepper.
- Cook for about 3-4 minutes on one side until a crust forms, then flip and add cheese on top.
- Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until cheese is melted.
- Toast the hamburger buns on the grill or in a separate skillet.
- Assemble the burgers with lettuce, tomato, pickles, and your choice of sauces.
- Serve hot and enjoy!

- Using a cast iron skillet can achieve a great crust.
- Let the patties rest briefly before serving to keep them juicy.
